What is Empowering Caregivers?

Empowering Caregivers is an evidence-based dementia care certification program for professional in-home and community-based caregivers. In just 6 hours, your employees will master complex dementia care concepts and strengthen technical caregiving and medical knowledge.

This training is ideal for home care agencies seeking professional development for their employees, new and emerging care professionals, and seasoned care professionals looking to expand their credentials.

Empowering Caregivers was developed by Southern Caregiver Resource Center alongside the leading experts in Alzheimer's and dementia care, including The George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers, Inc., St. Paul’s Senior Services, and the Stanford University School of Medicine. Our training has been reviewed, certified, and funded by the California Department of Aging.

Empowering Caregivers is available in both English and Spanish. To learn more about the Spanish language program, click here.

The Training

Our one-of-a-kind training format was designed to maximize understanding of and experience with the most challenging aspects of dementia care, including home safety, managing difficult behaviors, navigating medical appointments, and more.

Empowering Caregivers is unique because it uses animation as a teaching tool to simplify complex care concepts, making them easier to grasp and apply in real-life situations.

In addition to our innovative animated segments, each course offers the opportunity to brainstorm and collaborate with fellow care professionals, simulate hands-on care scenarios, and learn from SCRC's team of caregiving experts.

Empowering Caregivers is made up of 6 courses, each focusing on a different topic.

The Courses

Dementia Effects on Activities of Daily Living

SCRC Client Testimonials

“It’s an honor to be a caregiver and you want to be the best. But you need guidance. The care receiver is on a journey and as the caregiver; you go on that journey with them. There’s no manual that can tell you step-by-step how to do things, especially when things are constantly changing. It’s wonderful to be able to partner with SCRC on this journey.”
